What makes Life’s Journey stand out for home births?

When Covid-19 restrictions were in place for four years, Life’s Journey was only able to support assisted and unassisted home births and mothers who labored as long as possible at home before going into the hospital / birth center with virtual support. Why is this important? Life’s Journey KNOWS physiological birth.. how to spot the signs for labor progression without vaginal checks, can help you understand the different stages of labor, can help you find the most suitable positions for you during labor and birth, how to fully serve the mother through any pain or anguish, how to help their labors be shorter, can help you find the position of your baby through belly mapping, can help you hear your baby’s heartbeat through a fetoscope (it sounds different!), how to help families feel confident through labor and birth, how to help bring couples/families together through unforgettable and cherished moments, and so so so much more. The mothers have included high risk, VBAC, breech, shoulder dystocia, first time moms, multiple time moms, repeat client moms, and more. These years have taught me a lot and I cherish these experiences, which will help me greatly serve you as you go through one of the best and most important moments in your life.

  • Three Postpartum Sessions at four hour blocks: This is a great way to reflect on your birth experience and help you transition to parenthood. This is a time for healing, showering, napping, addressing any concerns and/or needs you or baby may have, and provide any resources or referrals you may need as well as have light cleaning, organizing, and cooking/prepping food for you. These postpartum sessions should be used within two weeks postpartum.

  • One Lactation Counseling Session: This service includes breastfeeding/pumping/supplemental counseling, baby latching issues and positions, understanding a baby’s intake amount and output, transitioning back to work, emotional support for you, education, resources, referrals, and more! This session will be scheduled on the same day as a postpartum session.

  • One Kinesio-Taping Session: This is a great alternative that can help relieve some pregnancy and postpartum symptoms, i.e. back pain, sciatica, sacroiliac pain, and help support abdomen separation. This can help allow your body to move better by allowing better posture and decreasing pain. This session will be scheduled on the same day as a postpartum session.

* For unassisted births, it is important to be educated in birth itself, what to expect, possible outcomes, etc.. I will support a woman who chooses this option, if she is educated on the subject at hand. However, doulas are not medically trained professionals. I advise you to seek prenatal care from an OB-GYN, CNM, or CPM for medical care.

This is your journey and we're in this together!
